The US Food and Drug Administration is warning that erectile dysfunction drugs, including Viagra, can be risky for the unborn.
The warning comes from the USFDA and Health Canada. The warning was based on the results of a study looking at which drugs are approved for use in the treatment of sexual dysfunction.
“This study found that some drugs, including the erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra and Cialis, can be associated with increased risk of serious adverse drug reactions, including blood clots, stroke, and heart attack,” the agency wrote.
The study looked at more than 1,300 women who had been prescribed Viagra or Cialis for a condition such as erectile dysfunction.
Viagra was approved for the treatment of. The drug works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of blood vessels to increase blood flow, the FDA said.
The drug is FDA-approved for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension, also known as hypertension.
Cialis, also known as tadalafil, is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It’s one of several ED drugs that is used for this purpose.
The FDA warning also applies to a small number of women taking the drugs and taking them regularly.
“This study showed that some drugs, including the erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra and Cialis, can be associated with increased risk of serious adverse drug reactions, including blood clots, stroke, and heart attack,” the agency said.
The FDA said there were no other studies in the area of the risks of using the drugs for the treatment of sexual dysfunction.
“However, these risks were not seen in the first year of use, so it is important that we continue to monitor for these risks and inform patients of any new information or changes to the information that may be needed,” it said.
